Tutorial
Greyscale Coloring

This is a very brief tutorial on how to color greyscale images. For this I used Photoshop CS2 and a Cintiq 21UX pressure sensitive monitor.

Linework

Here I laid down my flats and shaded the unicorn all in shades of grey, or monochromatic.

Here I used "control-M" to darken areas like the lower legs, muzzle, around the eye and the mane and tail. I used the lasso tool to select the areas I wanted to work with, making the edges fuzzy.

Next I started "coloring." I used "Control-B" to bring up the color balance window, lassoing parts and adjusting the color until I accomplished the wanted colors. I used "Control-M" in areas to darken and lighten as well.

Here I added highlights, mostly using the dodge tool.

Added a Celtic knot to finish it off.
